Discover the Wildlife in Your Garden with The Big British Garden Survey
Did you know your garden could play an important role in helping wildlife thrive across the UK?
Here at Bents Garden & Home, we’re encouraging customers and fellow garden lovers to take part in The Big British Garden Survey — a nationwide project designed to celebrate and better understand the valuable role gardens play in supporting biodiversity and nature.
Run by the National Garden Scheme in collaboration with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH), the survey invites anyone with access to a garden, no matter how big or small, to record information about their outdoor space and the wildlife it attracts.
Weeping Ash Garden
As a proud supporter of the National Garden Scheme, we are delighted to help raise awareness of this fantastic initiative. Our beautiful Weeping Ash Garden forms part of the Scheme’s Cheshire region and helps raise funds for a range of charities, while also showcasing the importance of gardens as spaces for relaxation, wellbeing and wildlife.
The Big British Garden Survey aims to build a clearer picture of how Britain’s gardens provide habitats and resources for nature. By taking part, gardeners can help researchers better understand how outdoor spaces support birds, bees, butterflies, hedgehogs and many other species.
National Garden Scheme President, Alan Titchmarsh, who is supporting the survey says:
“Gardens are not only hugely important in terms of caring for the landscape and for wildlife, but they also give us an opportunity to make a real contribution to the welfare of wildlife. They make a positive contribution to the health of the natural world – a hands-on way for all of us to do our bit in looking after the planet. The results of this important new survey will help us understand the role that thousands of gardens play and to champion ways in which gardeners can continue to support wildlife conservation in the UK. I would encourage everyone with a garden to explore their own patch of earth and contribute to this fascinating survey.”
Get involved
Getting involved is simple. Participants complete a short online survey about their garden and can then record wildlife sightings throughout the summer using easy-to-use apps. Every observation contributes to valuable national research and will help highlight how even small changes in our gardens can make a difference for wildlife.
Whether you have a large family garden, a small courtyard or a balcony filled with pots and plants, every outdoor space has the potential to support nature.
At Bents, we’re passionate about helping people create gardens that are both beautiful and beneficial for wildlife. From pollinator-friendly planting to wildlife habitats and sustainable gardening advice, there are lots of ways we can all help nature flourish closer to home.
The survey is open until the end of September 2026, with findings expected to be published in early 2027.
