There will always be some secrets our experts just won’t give away, but by following some simple steps you will be able to transform your artificial xmas tree into a stylish and show-stopping festive centrepiece.

Choose the best location

Before you start remember to make sure your tree is positioned correctly. If you’ve opted for a non pre-lit xmas tree then it must be near an electric socket so it’s easy to connect your Christmas tree lights lights, but if you’ve chosen one of our pre-lit varieties then you just need to consider size and space. Once you’ve chosen your preferred spot make sure there is enough floor space for all the branches and that there is enough height for dressing the top of the tree.

Add lights (if not pre-lit)

Before using any decorations, and if you’re adding Christmas tree lights, make sure they are placed on the tree in a symmetrical fashion. Rather than stringing lights around the tree, start from the centre post and work the lights along the top of the branch and then beck on the underside. Cross over at the centre post and work along the next branch. This prevents loops and sagging wires.

Decorate in Style

Next comes the Christmas decorations. Use larger baubles and decorations first, making sure not to forget about the inner parts of the tree to create depth and structure. Our packs of shatterproof baubles (£9.99 per pack) provide the perfect starting point.

Smaller, selected baubles have more impact when used in clusters, groups of three give a much better effect so choose a theme and select a variety that will enhance our great value basics. Use coated wire to tie baubles onto the tree. This will make your decorations more secure and prevent them from falling off if accidentally knocked.

Combine alternative features such as feather boas or berry and leaf garlands instead of traditional tinsel. Our white honeysuckle Christmas garlands (£9.99 each) are perfect for our Rural Retreat theme. If you have any gaps why not fill with large artificial flowers or bows.

And finally, why not have a cluster of start at the top of the tree rather than just one. Or use a spray of berried foliage combined with prelit branches such as our Home Comforts tree.
